No matter the serious economic crisis, tax increases, reduction of wages, unemployment rates among the highest in Europe. In Latvia the proportion of people who say they are happy is ancora alta, il 63%, addirittura quattro punti in più rispetto allo scorso anno, secondo un sondaggio effettuato dalla SKDS .
Il miglior risultato resta quello registrato nel 2005, durante gli "anni grassi" in cui la Lettonia fece il suo ingresso nella UE, quando il 69% dei lettoni dichiarava di ritenere felice la propria vita.
Sembra dunque che il "tasso di felicità" prescinda in qualche misura dai fattori economici e sociali del paese, e venga influenzato da molti altri fattori.
Sono più felici le famiglie con figli (70%) rispetto a quelle senza figli (58%), le donne (65%) rispetto agli uomini (60%), i lavoratori del settore privato (69%) più di quello pubblico (65%).
